We bring members together in strong communities that promote shared agendas, strengthen civil society’s influence, and enhance Denmark’s global engagement

On behalf of our members, we work to influence political decision-making at national, regional, and international levels. We gather and share knowledge, monitor and analyse trends, connect solutions, and facilitate dialogue.

We aim to strengthen public support and engagement and ensure that civil society’s voice, knowledge, and perspectives are represented in public debate.

Our work focuses on three key areas:

Together with our members, we influence national and international processes that promote sustainable development for the world’s most vulnerable communities and populations. This includes Danish foreign and development policy strategies, climate negotiations, and reforms of global institutions such as the UN, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.

We promote sustainability

WE PROMOTE  SUSTAINABILITY

Global inequality is increasing, and crises are multiplying. War and conflict are polarising societies, while the planet’s systems are under pressure due to pollution and climate change.

The consequences are clear: poverty, oppression, natural disasters, and loss of biodiversity, cultural heritage, and livelihoods.

Global Focus works to ensure that Denmark’s global engagement contributes to sustainable development through a holistic approach. This includes poverty reduction, protection of rights, respect for planetary boundaries, and reform of economic and political systems.

We advocate for Denmark to take responsibility for its historical climate impact and contribute to solutions that benefit people, societies, and nature globally.

We strengthen rights

WE STRENGTHEN RIGHTS

International human rights standards and conventions are under increasing pressure, and civic space is shrinking. Fundamental freedoms such as freedom of expression, association, and assembly are under threat worldwide - both offline and online. At the same time human rights, climate, and environmental defenders face growing risks.

Global Focus works to ensure that Denmark remains a strong voice for human rights, international law, and democratic principles. Through foreign and development policy, Denmark should continue to protect and strengthen civic space through strategies, funding, and concrete action.

Global Focus works to ensure that Denmark remains a strong voice for human rights, international law, and democratic principles. Through foreign and development policy, Denmark should continue to protect and strengthen civic space through strategies, funding, and concrete action.

We do this, among other things, through our funding programmes, which support human rights defenders working in difficult and dangerous conditions. We explore and strengthen civic space in the digital sphere, where surveillance, disinformation, and censorship challenge rights. We analyse trends affecting civic space and facilitate networks and knowledge exchange across our members and national, regional, and international alliances—all in order to promote rights-based development.

WE CHALLENGE POWER STRUCTURES

WE CHALLENGE POWER STRUCTURES

Global power imbalances create marginalisation, mistrust, and limited influence for many. The Global Majority - around 80% of the world’s population - is affected by structures shaped by historical colonisation and economic, cultural, and resource exploitation.

Global Focus works to challenge unjust and oppressive power structures - political, social, and economic, including those within our own sector. We advocate for Danish development policy to shift power and resources closer to local communities and actors.

Together with international partners and alliances, we develop initiativescampaigns, and guidelines to ensure meaningful civil society participation in the EU and UN.

We also support members in understanding and addressing power dynamics within their own organisations and partnershipswhile promoting new practices and narratives that strengthen global equity and solidarity.

How to engage

Global Focus brings members together through different communities of practice, where we share knowledge, experiences, and organise around shared priorities and actions.

By participating in our working groups, networks, and initiatives, your organisation becomes part of a committed community working across sectors to strengthen expertise and impact. These communities offer platforms for collaboration and targeted efforts within specific  hematic areas.
