The rise of digital attacks, internet shutdowns, online persecution of activists, and disinformation campaigns has led to a shrinkage of civic space both online and offline. This alarming trend, along with the recognition that technology is increasingly being misused to repress human rights and democracy rather than promote them, is the impetus behind Tech For Democracy - a Danish multi-stakeholder initiative launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Global Focus is a vital partner in Tech For Democracy, bringing civil society together to provide input from Danish and international organisations and networks. Along with our international Tech for Democracy network, we have developed the Action Programme for Tech for Democracy to support the Copenhagen Pledge. The pledge calls for governments, companies, and civil society to fulfill their digital responsibilities and ensure that technology supports democracy, human rights, and civil society.
As part of our efforts, Global Focus coordinates a Tech for Democracy working group of Danish civil society organisations and an international advisory group made up of experts, grassroots, and civil society organisations.
If you or your organisation would like to participate in Tech For Democracy, please contact Julie Arrildt or Sigrid Schiøler.
