Democracy is under pressure worldwide. The right to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and forming associations is violated to such an extent that only 3 percent of the world’s population today lives in societies where they can fully participate in democracy. It is a threat to free civic space.
Global Focus works to ensure that Danish civil society organisations take the lead in creating responses to this current negative development. We do this through joint national and international advocacy and lobbying, collecting and sharing knowledge, which forms the basis for joint capacity building and experience exchange. Together with our members, we support global alliances, national platforms, and new forms of organisation and mobilisation. We work purposefully to create meaningful inclusion of civil society in the UN.
At the same time, we develop and manage funding mechanisms for civil society organisations and rights defenders who experience crackdowns.
Threats against civic space not only take place in physical spaces but also in online digital spaces. Therefore we also focus on civic space online.
