Outcome Harvesting Training - beyond the basics
Due to overwhelming interest in our fall 2017 course Outcome Harvesting Training - beyond the basics we are pleased to let you know that we offer two Outcome Harvesting courses in 2018. With two courses, we are able to design the courses for two target groups:
Outcome Harvesting Training - beyond the basics January 23-25 2018 for organisations with strategic partnership agreements with Danida (see information below)
Outcome Harvesting Training - beyond the basics April 2018 (TBC - dates will follow) - open course.

Outcome Harvesting Training - beyond the basics
23.-25. January 2018
Civil Society Organisations are increasingly expected to show the outcome of their work. How is this done?
With the focus on Outcome Harvesting, this course as part of our M&E Network and the Civil Society Futures program, will give participants opportunity to learn about and explore one new method to help focus on the outcome level.
What is Outcome Harvesting?
Outcome Harvesting is a tool inspired by Outcome Mapping and Utilization Focused Evaluation that is being used worldwide to robustly identify, describe, analyse and interpret outcome and impact-level results regardless of whether they were pre-defined.
Outcome Harvesting collects (“harvests”) evidence of what has changed (“outcomes”) and, then, working backwards, determines whether and how an intervention has contributed to these changes.
Outcome Harvesting has proven to be especially useful in complex situations when it is not possible to define concretely most of what an intervention aims to achieve, or even, what specific actions will be taken over a multi-year period.
Outcome Harvesting is an innovative tool, which is increasingly being used by organisations and donors e.g. the World Bank.
Learning objectives of the course
By the end of the workshop participants will have:
- an understanding of the key concepts, steps and principles of Outcome Harvesting (OH)
- consolidated learning through practical exercises, group work and trainer feedback
- appreciated the flexibility of how OH can be adapted
- identified ways in which they can use OH in their work to enhance learning and accountability through monitoring and evaluation.
The trainers will provide tips and insights based on their extensive experiences working with OH.
Who is the course for?
Due to great interest in the Outcome Harvesting Training course in October 2017, it is our intention to organise two courses in 2018. Two courses give us the opportunity to design the courses for two target groups: 1) This course, January 23rd-25th, is for member organisations of Global Focus with Strategic Partnership Agreements with the Foreign Ministry only. 2) In April 2018 (dates to be confirmed) we will hold the next Outcome Harvesting Training course open. If you are interested in receiving more info about this, please contact Andreas Dybkjær-Andersson
The course is intended for those wishing to learn and advance beyond a basic understanding of the 6 OH steps by enriching their understanding of the concepts underpinning OH and, importantly, gaining confidence, through practical exercises, of how to adapt and apply the steps to different M&E challenges. The course will have a hands-on approach focused at enabling the participants to use OH as an M&E tool. The course will provide an opportunity to work on own cases and will facilitate feedback from other participants and trainers.
The course is intended for those who work with M&E or similar, but no experience with Outcome Harvesting is expected before the course. Those with some knowledge of the OH steps will be able to consolidate their understanding of concepts and steps before deepening their competence and confidence through exercises.
Please note: There will be some preparation tasks before the course and follow-up work, which is part of the course.
