What is the state of the right to peaceful protest for environmental human rights defenders around the world and in Denmark - and how can all actors involved in protecting civic rights ensure their fulfillment?
Global Focus, the European Center for Not-for-profit Law (ECNL), NOAH, and Nyt Europa invite civil society organizations, activists, movements, media representatives, lawyers, judges, and other key stakeholders to join this important discussion on civic space for environmental defenders.
This seminar will focus on the right to protest — one of the three fundamental pillars of civic space — which is increasingly under pressure globally, particularly for those advocating for environmental and climate protection.
We are honoured to welcome Michel Forst, UN Special Rapporteur on Environmental Defenders under the Aarhus Convention, as keynote speaker. He will share his insights on the growing repression of peaceful environmental protests and present his guidelines on the right to peaceful environmental protest. The event will also feature a panel of Danish stakeholders working to protect civic rights in an environmental context, reflecting on current developments in Denmark, setting the stage for an open discussion with the audience.
This event is open to anyone engaged in or interested in the protection of the right to peaceful protest and the state of civic space in Denmark and beyond.
