Shift the Power Workstream: Introduction and Kickoff
Date: February 6
Time: 13:00 - 15:30
We are excited to invite you to our first event in the new "Shift the Power" workstream. In this first event, we aim to address questions such as "What is Shift the Power? What is Decolonization?" and "How is this different from localization?"
This event will help deepen our understanding of these topics and how to implement them in our work. The event will feature a keynote speech by Moses Isooba, Executive Director of the Uganda National NGO Forum, and from Myriam Ciza Gambini, Project Coordinator, International Civil Society Centre. The event will provide an opportunity to collectively begin exploring the challenges and opportunities of transforming power structures in the international cooperation sector. Future sessions will delve into sub-themes like partnerships, communication, and financing.
Why "Shift the Power"?
"Shift the Power" is a global movement challenging existing power structures in international cooperation and development. It focuses on decentralizing power and resources to empower local actors and create more sustainable and equitable development processes. Shift the Power requires INGOs to rethink their roles, resource allocation, decision-making, and collaboration with local partners. It involves critically examining power structures and committing to more equitable partnerships, which is essential for a sustainable and fair development sector.
What is a Workstream?
As part of our new strategy, we are transitioning some working groups to a new setup called workstreams. These focus on a single overarching theme, aiming to learn, share experiences, and build capacity. Meetings will be less frequent but more qualitative, with deeper dives into topics and open to more participants, allowing you to bring colleagues. There will be a greater focus on internal and external presentations, knowledge sharing, and networking.
The event will be held in English.
The workstream can be followed through a new mailing list for all interested in the topic. If you wish to be added to this list, please contact Jesper Hildebrandt Brix at
