Open call for consultants: Addressing digital threats against human rights defenders
As part of the Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI), Global Focus is seeking consultants for two assignments aimed at addressing digital threats to Human Rights Defenders (HRDs). As the secretariat for the DDI Advisory Board, DDI invites applications for consultancy work that focuses on filling knowledge gaps in understanding and responding to digital attacks on HRDs, particularly in the Majority World.
The emergence of digital technologies has provided human rights defenders with new tools for organizing and conducting their activities advocating human rights. However, these advancements have also exposed them to new and heightened risks, such as digital surveillance and online harassment - threats that often interlink with physical threats.
The two open consultancy assignments are as follows:
- Mapping of support mechanisms to mitigate digital attacks on Human Rights Defenders in the Majority World (Terms of Reference available here)
- Research assignment: Forms of digital attacks on Human Rights Defenders in the Majority World (Terms of Reference available here)
Both assignments are closely linked and applicants may submit a single proposal for both, including a proposed timeline for completion. The application deadline is 9th of March 2025, with the estimated start date of the assignments on April 1st 2025.
