"Ten years on: reversing the Normalization of Attacks on Healthcare in Armed Conflict"

 The protection of the medical mission is at the heart of international humanitarian law and is a building block of our shared humanity: anyone needing medical assistance - friend or foe - must be treated with humanity; and those providing such care have special protection. yet attacks on healthcare are on the rise, with severe consequences for partients, staff, and communities.

Ten years after the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2286, the gap between commitment and practice is wider than ever. By 2024, attacks and deaths among medical and aid workers has at least doubled since 2021, and in 2025 the number of fatalities more than doubled again.

Against this backdrop, Danish Church Aid, Danish Red Cross, Doctors without Borders Denmark, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invite you to join us for an in-person event highlighting the urgent need to protect healthcare in armed conflict. The event will examine developments over the past decade and explore concrete measures to strengthen this protection through ecpert presentations and a panel discussion featuring a wide range of perspectives - from health care providers working in conflict settings to legal specialist and States committed to advancing the protection of medical missions within the UN Security Council and beyond.

The event will take place at Folkekirkens Nødhjælp, Meldahlsgade 3, 1613 Copenhagen on 7 September 2026 from 14:30 to 17:00.
