Peace in a time of Pandemic? Conflict, Covid-19 and Displacement
Onsdag 23 September 2020, 14:00 - 16:00

On the occasion of International Peace Day and in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Danish Refugee Council and the Network for Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding are pleased to invite you to participate in a virtual panel debate with key regional and international experts examining the impacts of Covid-19 on conflict, peace, and displacement dynamics in the Sahel region of West Africa.

Preliminary scenarios suggest a real risk of significantly increased displacement, further threatening peace in a region that is already suffering from increasing conflict and violence.

This event seeks to build awareness about the medium- to long-term impacts of Covid-19, and to discuss the measures needed to support conflict- and displacement-affected communities during and beyond the current crisis.

The program will include screening of a video and speakers will include:
  • Charlotte Slente, Secretary General, Danish Refugee Council
  • Marianne Kress, Director of Migration, Stabilization and Fragility at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, formerly Denmark’s Ambassador to Mali, Gambia and Senegal
  • Ornella Moderan, Head of Sahel programme, Institute for Security Studies (ISS)
  • Christian Cito, Program Advisor, Conducive Space for Peace
  • Ifeanyi Okechukwu, West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), Regional Coordinator, Early Warning
  • Tchegoun Adebo Koba, WCA - Regional Youth Advisor, Save the Children Denmark
  • Assalama Sidi, Interim Regional Director for West Africa, Oxfam
  • Alexander Kjærum, Senior Analyst, Danish Refugee Council

The webinar will be held on 23 september 2020 from 14:00 – 16:00.
