Tirsdag 07 Maj 2019, 08:30 - 10:00

Global Focus and the Embassy of Canada are pleased to host a breakfast briefing on what Canada is doing to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal Number Five: Achieve Gender Equality.

The Embassy’s Political Counsellor, Simeon McKay, will provide a briefing on how the Government of Canada is integrating the SDGs domestically and internationally. The embassy will be joined by Laveza Khan, who will provide a Canadian civil society perspective on Canadian efforts.

Laveza Khan is originally from Pakistan and currently lives in Canada. She is the Member Outreach & Government Relations Coordinator at the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation and also a Women Deliver Young Leader who is visiting Denmark to speak on SDG 5 and the upcoming Women Deliver Conference to be held in Vancouver in June. She is responsible for supporting and advocating for Civil Society Organizations in Alberta that are working locally and globally to achieve sustainable human development. Through her work, she was nominated as a finalist for the United Nations (UN) SDG Action Award for the Together 2017 Symposium. As an advocate, Laveza successfully planned the first-ever, multi-stakeholder conversations on the UN SDGs in Canada. More details:

There will afterwards be time for discussion, with the objective of fostering a dialogue between Canada and Denmark on achieving the Global Goals.
