The international Leave No One Behind Partnership invites Danish development actors to an exchange with the theme:
Making the Voices of Marginalised Groups Heard and Count in Denmark’s SDG Implementation

About the partnership and its work
The Leave No One Behind partnership was established in 2017, bringing together a diverse group of international civil society organisations, national CSOs, SDG platforms, campaigns, and community-based organisations. Partners aim to ensure that the voices of marginalised communities are heard and count in the implementation of the SDGs.
A collaborative pilot project was conducted between 2018 and 2019 in five countries: in Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Nepal and Vietnam. Key aspect of national level implementation was the active use of locally produced data, directly involving the targeted marginalised communities in the research
process. National partners have set up a dialogue with key authorities and public service providers at the local and national levels (i.e. statistics agencies, planning ministries, local and provincial councils, health service agents, etc.) to discuss with them potential for using this data in their planning. Between 2020 and 2022, the partnership wants to scale up its activities, jointly advocating at the international and national levels for the increased use of ‘community-driven data’ and other unofficial data sources in the SDG context. Underlining the universality of the promise to “leave no on behind”, the partnership aims to establish more communities of action at the country level, including countries of the ‘global north’.

Context and aim of the meeting in Copenhagen
Having a very active community of civil society actors in the country, and a well-established national data partnership in which official and non-official actors work together at eye level, the Leave No One Behind partnership selected Denmark as a priority country for our next project phase.
The purpose of this three-hours exchange is to bring together key national actors, discussing the possibility of doing a collaborative action on Making Voices Heard and Count in Denmark.
In focus of our discussions will be the potentials of community-driven and other unofficial data sources to serve as complimentary means of filling knowledge gaps on marginalised groups in the national SDG monitoring (with a focus on SDGs 10.2 and 16).
We want to discuss if and how a collaborative action in this context is possible in Denmark, exploring concrete entry points of working together.
Who will come
We invite national civil society organisations, foundations, academia, think tanks, members of the Danish Data Partnership and any other development actors working on the SDGs (emphasis on 10.2 and 16), and/or having a programmatic focus on marginalised groups.
After first discussions with Danish partners, we expect to welcome several national offices of our global member organisations as well as some members of the Danish Data partnership.
The Leave No One Behind partnership will be represented at the meeting through its secretariat, the International Civil Society Centre, and through various members from the global and national levels, such as ActionAid, BRAC, Development Initiatives, the SDGs Kenya Forum, Plan and Transparency
International.

Our approach in practice: Making Voices Heard and Count in Kenya
VSO Kenya and the national SDG platform (SDGs Kenya Forum) co-lead our national coalition in Kenya. Together with local and national authorities, partners have set up dialogues with representatives of marginalised communities in five Kenyan counties to review the progress towards the key SDG 10.2. As key results, the partnership submitted various policy and service recommendations, as well as an official memorandum to the national planning ministry, laying out key principles for changing the national system for statistical monitoring, reporting and planning. Currently, there is a follow-up with the Kenyan Statistics Office and other strategic actors, focussing on the creation of a framework for the active use of civil society data in national and local level monitoring and SDG review.
