Outcome Harvesting Training - beyond the basics
Fra Onsdag 25 Oktober 2017 -  09:00
Til Fredag 27 Oktober 2017 - 17:00

Civil Society Organisations are increasingly expected to show the outcome of their work. How is this done?

With the focus on Outcome Harvesting, this course as part of our Monitoring-Networking under the Civil Society Futures program , gives participants opportunity to learn about and explore one new method to help focus on the outcome level.

What is Outcome Harvesting?

Outcome Harvesting is a tool inspired by Outcome Mapping and Utilization Focused Evaluation that is being used worldwide to robustly identify, describe, analyse and interpret outcome and impact-level results regardless of whether they were pre-defined.

Outcome Harvesting collects (“harvests”) evidence of what has changed (“outcomes”) and, then, working backwards, determines whether and how an intervention has contributed to these changes.

Outcome Harvesting has proven to be especially useful in complex situations when it is not possible to define concretely most of what an intervention aims to achieve, or even, what specific actions will be taken over a multi-year period.

Outcome Harvesting is an innovative tool, which is increasingly being used by organisations and donors e.g. the World Bank.

Learning objectives of the course

By the end of the workshop participants will have:

  • an understanding of the key concepts, steps and principles of Outcome Harvesting (OH)
  • consolidated learning through practical exercises, group work and trainer feedback
  • appreciated the flexibility of how OH can be adapted
  • identified ways in which they can use OH in their work to enhance learning and accountability through monitoring and evaluation.

The trainers will provide tips and insights based on their extensive experiences working with OH.

Who is the course for?

The course is intended for those wishing to learn and advance beyond a basic understanding of the 6 OH steps by enriching their understanding of the concepts underpinning OH and, importantly, gaining confidence, through practical exercises, of how to adapt and apply the steps to different M&E challenges. The course will have a hands-on approach focused at enabling the participants to use OH as an M&E tool. The course will provide an opportunity to work on own cases and will facilitate feedback from other participants and trainers.

The course is intended for those who work with M&E or similar, but no experience with Outcome Harvesting is expected before the course. Those with some knowledge of the OH steps will be able to consolidate their understanding of concepts and steps before deepening their competence and confidence through exercises.

The course is for member organisations of Global Focus.

Please note: There will be some preparation tasks before the course and follow-up work, which is part of the course.

Registration: The course is limited to 20 people. A maximum of two people from each organisation are welcome to register - and we do recommend that two people participate from each organisation, if possible. This enhances learning and the ability to use outcome harvesting in one's own organisation.

Should the course be full - or if you are interested but unable to attend these days, please do register at the waiting list or send us an email. This will give us an indication of how much interest there is in possibly setting up another program or similar.
